Weekend Toast 10/11/20

Sharing is caring!

The Weekend Toast series is a collection of recently published articles by other bloggers that I put together to share. Consider this your one-stop-shop for remaining up-to-date on being a badass. I got super behind this past couple of weeks which is why I missed the date for the last toast. Hopefully, the articles from this one make up for it!

So, grab your drink of choice, put your feet up and get ready to read!

This week: investing in gold; financial centipedes; fraud protection; how to spend free time; prepping for the week; minimalism; travel tips

Cheers! (and stay safe everyone)

Being of Indian descent, I can attest to India’s love of gold. Everyone owns it, wears it, stores it in their homes, reveres it. Many people there may not invest in the stock market, but they will have invested in ownership of gold. It’s not a trend I see here much, but it is a viable option. Financial Freedom Countdown has all the information on investing in gold should you be interested in some diversification: IS GOLD A GOOD INVESTMENT: HOW TO INVEST IN GOLD

Personal finance is personal. What one person is doing, or what works for them, may not apply to you. That’s normal and you shouldn’t compare. XRAYVSN has a post to describe this in greater detail in his post Don’t Be Part Of A Financial Human Centipede!

With the market all over the place right now, it’s important to hang on to your cash, and protect yourself from identity fraud. I last had to deal with this when my credit card number was stolen at a gas station. What steps can you take to protect yourself? We all have free time, strive for more free time, and love knowing that we have free time coming up (i.e. vacation). However, on a day to day, regular basis, how are we using our free time? Some people start side hustles, some make time for self-care, others use it to better themselves. None of the answers are wrong. However, the point is to do something with that time. Life is short as we all know. Let’s utilize what we’ve got to the best of our abilities. Five Year Fire Escape has the post to help you fill your free time in ways to set you up for success (or anything else you may want): 10 ways to spend your free time to become ultra-successful

To quote Eminem

Look if you only had one shot, or one opportunity. To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip?

We’ve got one life.

Hand in hand with the above, you may hate to see your free time (or the weekends as we like to call it) dwindle down and you may dread the week to come. But you can beat that feeling! Women Who Money help you Beat The Sunday Night Blues with these great tips on using those hours for good rather than perseverating on what we can’t change.

A lot of people say they want to declutter and live a more minimalist lifestyle, but don’t know how to get started. Radical FIRE has the post just for that: Minimalist Lifestyle – 7 Small Steps To Begin. I personally don’t think you need to sell everything to achieve this; just cut out the waste!

Sometimes we have no idea if where we want to go is safe, or what we may need to do in order to be able to go to that destination. The worst thing that can happen is that you fly all the way there and are denied entry. Your Money Geek has a few simple things to do to ensure that doesn’t happen. 1. Thanks for the inclusion in your toast. I will start my day with a tequila sunrise to celebrate!

And this is falling behind to you!? Wow you are putting out a few articles a week. That’s amazing! I want to see the layout of a good week!

  2. It is funny because you hit the nail on the head about the Indian culture and the fascination with gold. I too have the gold bug and definitely picked it up from my mom.

Thanks for the shout out for my article as well.
