Here’s a unique gift-giving idea for this holiday season — go green and give a tree! How do you choose? Choose based on who you’re buying for. Tree Hugger has all the suggestions in their post 12 houseplants for everyone on your gift list
It’s that time of year! Everyone is frantically shopping for their loved ones and wanting to do their best by them. Doing so, however, can be very expensive. Debt Discipline has the solution for you in his post WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS – TIPS FOR A FRUGAL CHRISTMAS. Check it out and see what you can do to help your budget!
I want to shift focus for a second and point out that, while this time of year is the focus of gift-giving and food, please also take some time to reflect on your priorities and how you’re going about living. Are you so focused on “saving money for later” that you’re forgetting to live today? While frugality and being smart about money is important, it’s equally important to know that there is no replacement for the time that you have now. Life before budget writes a post giving an example of this in Don’t Wait for Early Retirement to Start Living. Life is short, so don’t delay living it.
If you’re looking to make some extra cash, one way you can do so is to sell some of your new, unused or gently used items that you no longer want. Ebay and craigslist and consignment stores are all popular options, and there’s another: Poshmark. Some of your higher end things would likely fit in better on this site. I like to dabble has first had experience buying and selling on Poshmark and shares their tips for ensuring your posting is competitive. Check it out for a simple way to generate some cashflow! Poshmark Review: Buying and Selling Used Brand Name Items Online.
I feel like the holidays are synonymous with getting married or engaged. May not be applicable to everyone, but I think this article is apt in its timing. My blogging friend at BudgetSavvyBride contributed to this article on How to Save For Your Wedding Without Going Broke. For anyone in this boat, or for anyone you know, I hope this helps!
Continuing on the savings train, check out this post by The Frugal Physician on car buying tips! 10 Top Car Buying Tips. I personally think you should never pay full price for anything, let alone a new car which will devalue as soon as you drive it off the lot. (See my “new” car story here). As she likes to say, “stay frugal, y’all!”
If you or anyone you know is on the job hunt or considering making a change, its imperative that you, or your friends, have an updated resume. A resume is what gives employers a first look to who you are and can determine whether or not you even get called in for an interview. My friends at the Money Mix have a post just on this topic: How To Write The Perfect Resume For Any Job + Free Resume Templates. Be sure to work on your resume so that you’re also prepared to give it to anyone who asks for it when you network! 🙂 I hope it helps you on your career journey!
